NEW DELHI:
The approximately 400-metre-long MSC Anna arrived at Adani Group’s Mundra Port on Sunday, becoming the longest container ship ever to land at an Indian port. This vessel is one metre longer than the previous largest, the MV MSC Hamburg, which docked here in July.
MSC Anna is a gigantic vessel, with an overall length of 399.98 m and a staggering capacity of 19,200 TEUs , making it the largest container ship to ever visit an Indian port.
Its arrival draft is 16.3 metres, which can only be accommodated at Adani Ports, Mundra, as no other port in India can berth a deep-draft vessel. The estimated exchange during its stay is 12,500 TEUs, according to a statement from Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ).
Adani Ports, Mundra, berthed the 399-metre-long MV MSC Hamburg in July 2023, making it one of the world’s longest container ships with a capacity of 16,652 TEUs. This had prepared the way for the arrival of MSC Anna.
“The arrival of MSC Anna in Mundra demonstrates not just the port’s ability to handle mega ships, but also its role in improving India’s maritime commerce capacities. “As APSEZ expands and upgrades its facilities, the port will play an increasingly important role in the global shipping and logistics landscape,” the statement continued.
