NEW DELHI: The Indian Meteorological Department projected a wet spell with thunderstorms and strong winds across the eastern and southern peninsulas until May 9.In a press release, the weather department predicted that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds would continue over the northeastern part of the country until May 7.The weather agency issued a warning on cyclonic circulation in northeast Assam and Bihar, adding that strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India are very likely to prevail at lower tropospheric levels till May 7, 2024.
According to the IMD, cyclonic conditions in southern India will bring rain and thunderstorms to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana over the next five days, as well as north and south interior Karnataka on May 7 and 8, and Lakshadweep on May 9, 2024.
The severe heat that has gripped large sections of eastern and peninsular India for over a week will gradually subside as light showers and thunderstorms drop temperatures in the next week, according to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast on Sunday.
