Google Gemini App In India, with chat bot support for nine Indian languages
CEO Sundar Pichai said on Tuesday that the Google Gemini app, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) conversational chat bot, is now accessible in India. The software, which Google initially released in February for the United States, gives users access to the capabilities of Gemini, Google’s family of Large Language Models (LLMs). It is making the software available in both English and nine Indian languages. Furthermore, Google is adding support for these languages to Gemini Advanced.
Gemini app is now available in India
In a blog post, Google revealed that the Gemini app is now accessible on the Google Play Store in India. It will support ten languages in total, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Users may use the AI chat bot by either downloading the Gemini app or opting in using Google Assistant.
Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, made the news in a post on X (previously Twitter). Google also said that Gemini Advanced, the LLM included with the Google One membership and featuring a bigger token context window, will be upgraded. It will use the capabilities of Gemini 1.5 Pro in English as well as the nine Indian languages that the Gemini app now supports.
Gemini Advanced now allows users to upload up to 1,500-page documents or 100 emails and have the AI chat bot summarize them. It will also give insights about the material. According to Google, Gemini Advanced can now “clean, explore, analyse, and visualise your data” from spreadsheets prepared in Google Sheets, CSVs, or Excel.
According to the firm, these files are not utilized to train AI models and will stay private to the user. While the Gemini app is now available for Android users in India via the Google Play Store, iOS users will only be able to access it through the Google app.
Gemini on Google Messages
Google recently announced the launch of Gemini in the Google Messages app in India. While this capability was already available to users outside the nation, Indian users may now communicate with the AI chat bot using the Messages app. This capability is being handed out to a small number of handsets, with an Android handset with 6GB of RAM or more required.
