The summer heat has been scorching in Tamil Nadu for more than a month. In this environment, summer rains have been pouring for the past few weeks. At the same time, heavy rain is falling in many places of Tamil Nadu. In this regard, in the notification issued by Chennai Meteorological Department yesterday (19.05.2024), “Southwest Monsoon has started in Andaman Sea region. Southwest Monsoon has started in Andaman 3 days earlier than usual. This year the southwest monsoon is expected to be above normal.
Also heavy rain is likely in 4 districts namely Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari today (20.05.2024). The districts of Virudhunagar, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Dindigul are likely to receive very heavy rain today. There is a possibility of heavy rain today in 6 districts namely Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Trichy and Pudukottai.
In this case, it is raining widely in various parts of the city and suburbs of Chennai. Accordingly, widespread rains are falling in Ashok Nagar, Guindy, Ekkaduthangal, West Mambalam, Adyar, Saitappettai, Mylapore, Mantaiveli, Vadapalani, MRC Nagar, Thiagaraya Nagar, Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam and Ambattur. Also some places are expected to have chance of rain due to cloud cover.
Along with this, a red alert has been issued for Kanyakumari, Theni, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli districts for heavy rain today and tomorrow (21.05.2024). Also, orange alert has been issued for Coimbatore, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Tirupur and Dindigul districts for very heavy rain today and tomorrow.
