The summer heat has been scorching Tamil Nadu for more than a month. In this environment, summer rains have been pouring for the past few weeks. At the same time, heavy rain is falling in many places of Tamil Nadu. It was in this environment that the Indian Meteorological Department announced, ‘A low pressure area has formed in the Southwest Bay of Bengal. A low pressure area formed over the southwest and adjoining central West Bay of Bengal over the coastal areas of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh.
It is likely to strengthen as a low pressure area on 24th (tomorrow) moving in a northeasterly direction. This means that this low pressure area will move northeastwards towards Odisha and West Bengal. At the same time, although this low pressure area will not come towards Tamil Nadu, there is a chance of rain in Tamil Nadu. And in that announcement, it was the first low-pressure area of the year. Due to this, the Meteorological Center has mentioned that there is a possibility of very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu.
In this case, in the notification issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department, “Very heavy rain warning is issued for 5 districts namely Theni, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari today (23.05.2024). The low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal will strengthen into a depression tomorrow (24.05.2024),” it said.
